After the accident, 60 years old Sainz Sr enlisted the help of fans to get the car back on its wheels. But after experiencing chest pains, Sainz Sr was airlifted to the hospital. However, he changed his mind halfway through and told the pilot to turn around. He then returned to continue the race.
Carlos Sainz Jr who was spectating the event also caused a bit of a stir. After the accident, Sainz Jr closed the door to his dad's race car, this resulted in an official warning because he was not part of the Audi team.
