There may only be five apps on this list but there isn't any filler. All of these application are worth downloading and will make your life easier! Just don't use them while driving.
Waze
Waze is without a doubt the best satnav app out there. It's been my go-to sat nav app for as long as I can remember.
It was developed by Google so you know you're getting something good! Although if privacy is your main concern, this maybe isn't the app you. But hey, if you own a smartphone, you have already given up your internet privacy!
Waze relies on its users to provide the best information, you can tell the app where you see road works and speed cameras, it will then alert other Waze users and will redirect them accordingly. It even knows how fast you're going and if there are a lot of Waze users travelling slowly, the app will know there's traffic and will divert other users who would have otherwise gotten stuck in the traffic.
Waze does have advertisements but they show up as virtual billboards so they don't get in your way or hinder your experience in any way.
Uber
Okay, this one isn't strictly motoring related but, it is car-related. Uber is the simplest and easiest taxi app out there. I personally only use Uber in other countries, since it isn't available in my town and I think it's good to support your local taxi drivers.
But, when you're in a foreign city and, you have no idea where you are, the Uber app does know where you are! You don't need an address and, the fares are usually cheaper than a traditional taxi. Uber is available 24/7 as well.
I once used Uber at a hotel in Memphis, Tennesse at 3.30 am, the driver was there within 10 minutes with a smile on her face handing out sweets and bottled water - now that's good service! And for those times you're walking out of an airport terminal and, you can't find your phone, you can even call an Uber from your smartwatch.
You can even look back at previous rides. This feature is great when you're locked down not allowed to go anywhere and are in the mood to reminisce about past holidays and trips.
Parkopedia
This one is essential if you're driving somewhere new. I repeat, essential if you're driving somewhere new!
Parkopedia will show you all of the nearest car parks along with their prices. In my experience, it's extremely accurate all over the world. I've used Parkopedia in Leeds, England and Santa Monica, California - every time it works as expected.
The app looks worryingly simple on some devices. But I assure you, it works perfectly fine.
ps, there's also a toilet finder app which does the same thing but will find you a toilet instead of a car park.
Plugshare
Now, I haven't personally used this one in my day to day life but I have tried it out for the sake of writing this blog post.
PlugShare like Waze is supported by its users, and it has a lot of users, all over the world! It's very similar to Parkopedia as well, it just shows you where to charge your car instead of where to park it.
You can post photos and reviews of the charging station and, to my surprise people do post reviews and photos of the charging stations. Even in my small town where electric cars haven't yet taken off, people do photograph and review the charge points.
Spotify
Not only do Spotify offer unlimited free streaming, but it also has a great car view - which is only to be used when it's safe and legal to do so! Car view makes all of the essential buttons bigger and easier to press.
Spotify is also fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It might just be one of the most car-friendly apps out there!
It can even be controlled by your voice, choosing a new playlist or podcast has never been easier. As long as your phone is in the car and connected to Bluetooth, Siri or Google Assistant can change your song for you.
